and viewing. Teaching language and literacy is crucial for communication and understanding in today's ever changing society.
But what is Literacy?
Literacy is the ability of people to read, write, speak and listen effectively within different social and cultural settings.

Literacy in children begins when reading and writing first begins to take place. Through a more formalised education system they build on these early experiences, learn strategies to help them develop their knowledge and will eventually become a fluent readers and writers and overall good communicators.
Two basic skills needed in literacy for kids is the ability to decode language - that is understand letters and words and to make meaning from what they read, view and hear which is similar to those in society around them.
The learning of reading, writing, spelling, speaking, listening and viewing are all interconnected and all come under the subject of language.
